Alaska Wholesale Flower Market

Hanshew Business Partner

 

Alaska Flower Market has been a business partner of Hanshew Middle School since 2013. They taught the horticulture after school club how to arrange beautiful flower bouquets. In addition, Alaska Flower Market has come in to Hanshew to help students in the School Business Partnership class learn how to interview for a job. The main purpose for the partnership is to help and support our Hanshew Middle School community. Hanshew students have invited Alaska Flower Market to come to our band, choir, and orchestra concerts. As well as inviting them to school concerts, Hanshew students have sent holiday cards to thank Alaska Flower Market for being such a wonderful business partner.

Quiznos

Business Partnership

 

Quiznos has been one of Hanshew’s business partners since 2012. Quiznos on Lake Otis has been a very consistent business partner for Hanshew Middle School. Over the years the owner of Quiznos has come in and spoken to students about being an entrepreneur and how to apply for a job. Quiznos has also come in to work with students on mock job interviews. To try to give back, Hanshew has hung a sign with the Quiznos logo in the foyer. Hanshew students have also invited Quiznos to music concerts and sent holiday cards. The partnership began to benefit the students at Hanshew Middle School and to help prepare them for future employment. Quiznos was Hanshew’s 2015 Spirit of Tomorrow award nominee!

Seward's Folly

Business Partner

 

Seward's Folly became one of Hanshew Middle School’s business partners in 2013. They generously provided gift certificates to Hanshew for a drawing at an Open House event. The purpose of the partnership is to support the students at Hanshew Middle School. Hanshew tries to give back to Seward's Folly by putting a student created Seward’s Folly sign in the foyer and sending holiday cards.

Big Brothers Big Sisters

Business Partner

 

Big Brothers Big Sisters of Alaska has been working with Hanshew since April 2015. When Hanshew began their partnership with BBBS, Hanshew agreed to have a clothing donation bin outside of the school. Big Brothers Big Sisters of Alaska gives Hanshew 10 cents per pound of clothing that is donated at the donation bin. Hanshew has used the money to buy food for families in need of a meal for the holidays. Families can drop bags of clothing off to donate at the red clothing bin in front of Hanshew. To try to give back, Hanshew has hung a student created Big Brothers Big Sisters sign in the school’s foyer. Hanshew students also send holiday cards and thank you notes.

Carl's Jr.

Business Partner

 

Carl’s Jr. has been one of Hanshew’s business partners since 2014. Carl’s Jr. has come into Hanshew and talked about employability skills, and how to do job interviews. Carl’s Jr. also helped Hanshew create the “Start a Conversation” program for students and their parents. To try to give back, Hanshew has hung a Carl’s Jr. banner in the school’s foyer and Carl’s Jr. has a Hanshew’s Hawk symbol in their store on Abbott.

Omega Psi Phi Fraternity Inc.

Gamma Alpha Alpha Chapter

 

Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. Gamma Alpha Alpha Chapter, is a men's fraternity that has been partnered with Hanshew since May 2015. Their boys mentoring program began at the end of October 2015. The Chairman of Youth Leadership for the fraternity, came to Hanshew in September 2015 and January 2016 and spoke to students for one hour about the apprenticeship program in Alaska, as well as employability skills students can develop to be successful in the work place. To support Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. Hanshew students created an Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. sign and had it hung in the foyer of the school. Hanshew students have also invited Omega Psi Phi Fraternity members to music concerts and sent out Hanshew holiday thank you notes and cards.

Lowe's

Business Partner

 

Lowes South Anchorage has been one of Hanshew’s business partners since 2013. Volunteers from Lowes have come in to help students with mock job interviews. Lowes has also sent two speakers to help students learn about how to prepare for getting a job and what kinds of questions they should ask during a job interview. In 2015 Lowes gave Hanshew a discounted price on a washer and dryer set and also installed it for free. To try to give back, Hanshew students send holiday cards and create thank you posters. Also, Hanshew students created a big Lowes poster that hangs Hanshew’s front foyer.

Menchie's Frozen Yogurt

Business partner

 

Menchie’s has been one of Hanshew’s business partners since 2013. Menchie’s has come in and given class presentations on employability skills and how to be an entrepreneur, as well as helped students with mock job interviews. Menchie’s has given gift certificates, small cups of frozen yogurt and Menchie’s shirts to students at Hanshew. The Menchie’s mascot came to a school assembly that featured the Hanshew volleyball team and tossed Menchie’s shirts and gift certificates into the crowd. They also gave frozen yogurt certificates to the volleyball players. To try to give back, Hanshew has hung a student- created Menchie’s sign in the front foyer. Students have invited Menchie’s to music concerts and sent holiday cards. We are very thankful for Menchie’s.

Business Partnership

 

  • 20% off teacher coffee with teacher ID at Hillside SteamDot
  • Donations of coffee cards or bags of coffee beans for fundraising
  • Donation of coffee for teachers on conference days or teacher training days
  • Donations of platters of baked goods on conference days or teacher training days
  • Donation of hot chocolate for student after-school activities
  • Provide space at Hillside SteamDot store for teacher meetings
  • Make classroom presentations – Green Coffee lectures, possibly good for geography and science
  • Make classroom presentations about necessary workplace skills

Putters Wild

Business Partnership

 

Putters Wild has been one of Hanshew’s business partners since 2013. They have provided mini golf passes for Hanshew’s principal to hand out to students as rewards. They have also helped students in the School Business Partnership class with mock job interviews and talked with students about how to start a business and become an entrepreneur. To try to give back, Hanshew has hung a student created Putters Wild sign in the foyer of the school. Hanshew students have invited Putters Wild to concerts and sent holiday cards to them. The partnership exists to help support Hanshew students.

Anchorage Fire Department Fire Station Twelve "The Dirty Dozen"

  • Make classroom presentations on special topics on pre-arranged basis (fire safety etc.)

  • Fill dunk tanks on pre-arranged basis.
  • Bring fire trucks to school during October Fire Prevention month and answer questions about the equipment and being a firefighter.
